I first met Leonard Leo over thirty years ago. He is a gentleman and a man of integrity. Some may disagree with his views, however he is a family man of character. I feel badly that his personal residence is the subject of intrusive protests that are designed to chill his right to advocate for what he feels is right. I am embarrassed and ashamed for the protesters. They show a lack of respect for a fellow human being. So sad.

That may very well be but...he is the architect of the current Supreme Court who is abridging the rights of many Americans. There is nothing these protestors need to be ashamed of. They have the right to protest and the right of free speech, which at least for now is protected. He shows a lack of respect for the majority of Americans in his advocacy for the right wing goals of abolishing abortion rights among other things. Now is not the time to be "polite", now is the time to speak out when the majority of Americans are being held hostage by the minority. If his beliefs are strong enough, I'm sure he is strong enough to withstand a few protesters.

Thank you Laura Grier for your wonderful comments. I tried to like your last comment but it didn’t allow it. Being polite is not more important than trying to do something about tyranny. Leo is the true villain of our time and is principally responsible for overturning roe which WILL ruin and take many women’s lives. This is no time for polite conversation.

I guess I value basic human courtesy and respect more than you do. There are so many ways to express your freedom of speech without causing a family- wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, in-laws, friends and pets to endure anxiety and stress. Who wants police and security at your front door every day? My guess is we will not agree on this, but I feel strongly this is simply bad manners.

I value civility, which is why I am being direct but measured in my comments. Respect is something that is earned. You are saying that displaying bad manners are worse than abridging human rights? I am sure it is unpleasant. But the lives he is affecting by his advocacy and influence have been made far more than unpleasant. Sometimes it is important to take the protest to the power - even when it is "impolite". We are WAY past that. If Mr. Leo can't stand strong in the face of a few protestors opposition without calling the police, it is too bad. So many have suffered so much worse in the cause of advancing human rights.

"I guess I value basic human courtesy and respect more than you do."

I guess you value courtesy and respect, for some, above the constitutional rights of others.

Courtesy and respect, and good manners are not basic human attributes - they are cultural constructs. They are meant to promote 'working and playing well with others.' So is the law - when it is applied equally to all. Which does not seem to be the case here. In society equal justice before the law must prevail over the niceties of manners.

Leo has been instrumental in perverting to law to prioritize abuse of government authority to perpetuate undeserved privileges for a few, while inflicting undeserved burdens on the majority. That seems to be replicated in what happened here. Officer Kevin used government authority to prioritize Leo's privileged position over the young protestor's rights.

The law relevant to this instance in very loosely written and gives the enforcers a wide leeway to apply it. In the video, the arresting officer expresses his own anger about Leo's family having to hear some curse words directed at Leo - the officer's response is informed by his own emotions and bias. The officer asserts that the law demands an arrest but that is not true. It was his or someone higher's choice.

The Leo family enjoys great wealth and privilege - earned by Leo spinning the bad impulses of his paymasters into worse facts on the ground for us. And here he has used that wealth and privilege to have a sympathetic officer turn his impetus for revenge into a police record for a young man - who used intemperate language but did not violate the law. And that perversion of the law - Leo's stock in trade - is bad for society.

How is bribery ad enslavement of child rape survivors 'courtesy?' You are pretty easily influenced. Hitler and Stalin were courteous, and Stalin was downright charming! Killed only a few millions Polish though...

Doesn't matter if he's a gentleman, he's directly responsible for 1/3 of the supreme court which has just made a decision that has the potential to kill thousands of women.

Leonard Leo is personally responsible for the selection of judges through the Federalist Society, whose agenda is solely political in nature. One of their political agendas was to intrude on MY personal choice to be pregnant or not, a choice that is THE MOST personal decision a woman and her family can make, that should be made in the privacy of her personal residence & her doctors office. Leonard Leo chose to INTRUDE on MY decisions, my daughters, my cousins, my sisters, every woman I know has had THEIR privacy invaded by his agenda. I heartily approve of the protests at HIS personal residence, as he’s invaded all of ours.

"It isn't nice to block the doorway," Now where have we heard that before?

"It isn't nice to go to jail,

There are nicer ways to do it" That sound so familiar.

"But the nice ways always fail.

It isn't nice, it isn't nice,

But thank you buddy for your advice,

Cause if that’s Freedom's price,

We don't mind.”

It seems pretty clear to me that you can't elect representatives that will advocate and legislate your views. Sure, terrorize a guy who has done what you wish you could do. Stop attacking individuals. Why not use your energy to elect representatives that share your views? No wonder this country is so polarized. You either have the votes or you don't. Either way why not be civil and respectful. Also, I post under my real name not some anonymous user name like many do. Let's encourage dialog not hate speech. We have much more in common than you may think.

Leonard Leo and his far right pals represent the antithesis of the principles this country was founded upon. The very definition of a Supreme Court dictates a court made up of balanced viewpoints. A court within which citizens of varying political beliefs and interests can seek refuge and respite from a corporate cabal that has wrested control of our nation from the citizens. Packing the Supreme Court with Federalist Society members of the radical right should be seen as a treasonous act because that is precisely what it is. Leo and others who have used Dark Money to buy a majority on both the Supreme and Federal Courts should be charged with treason, tried, and if found guilty imprisoned as the traitors that they are. Once that goal has been accomplished "Citizens United" easily the worst, most corrupt decision ever handed down by our highest court must be reversed. The idea that the massive economic power of Corporate America is not enough to ensure their freedom to speak, that they need to also be able to buy our legislatures is so obscene as to inspire disbelief. Were the Founding Fathers alive today the Federalist Society and all their highly paid lackeys would be behind bars where they belong!
