Downgrade from …?…? AAA to AA, AA to A, A to BBB, below BBB. It makes a difference and would have been helpful if included in the piece.

Regarding the closure of the SWH clinic … it seems to me that it’s a bit redundant to have the Bar Harbor Hospital and affiliated remote clinics and the Ellsworth Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital and affiliated remote clinics both jockeying for the same patients on MDI. (P.S. i don’t have a dog in this fight).

Some healthcare economists would say a single healthcare system could achieve much better efficiencies and economies of scale (more caregivers, less admins) whilst other healthcare economists would alternatively argue a single “monopoly” has less incentive to contain costs.

But MDI has a history of favoring multiple hospitals, clinics, school districts, and police forces. Can this model be sustained in the 21st century? I dunno.

Perhaps not a good time on MDI to be a patient, or student, or taxpayer for that matter. But doubtless a good time to be an MDI administrator!

I recently had exemplary care at the emergency room of a Cairns Queensland Australia hospital, complete with nursing and physician observation and some lab tests.

You would think they could stick it to the American tourist for big bucks.

My TOTAL bill for everything, however, including physician fees came to $408 US.

How is that even possible (?) for a non-citizen, even with a countrywide National Health Service

"Even when viewed in the light most favorable to the Defendant, the facts show that, *as a matter of law, the Town of Bar Harbor did not follow the proper procedures when enacting ..."*

Well *that* should emblazoned on the banner of the Bar Harbor Town Clique.

Or for short, as nasty as we wanna be. Because we can. Proceed until apprehended. By diligent residents and the courts. AND the voters. The clique may obstruct implementing the law, but surely they won't obstruct seating newly elected counselors. Would they?
