Thank you Lincoln for another important revelation about taxpayer dollars being used to market industries that pollute our waters. They need to find other ways to manufacture sustainable jobs that don't pollute. Our ocean waters are under enough pressure already.
You are practicing the sort of journalism that this area so desperately needs. When I was a journalist in the 1960s we used to say "The press is free only to those with the money to buy one." The internet has promised to change all that and the Quietside Journal actually has. Keep up the good work...reading your articles is like breathing fresh air after a week in a closed garage!
Extraordinary. thanks for revealing this rot in the DECD. I was unaware of their role in promoting this landrush of foreign adventurers with , as we've learned, little beyond bluster as far as their actual capacity to actually bring one of these forward.
As far as Whole Oceans' holdup, did they discover that raising salmon using water from the mercury tainted end of Penobscot River produces mercury tainted product? Backstory on the river's ongoing woes: google this: Penobscot River, 9 tons
It is refreshing to read the 'truth' about what is really going on for once. Our waters are impacted and so are our fishermen. We cannot allow aquaculture to take over our shorelines and we cannot allow aquaculture to replace our fishing industry.
l don't know much about aquaculture, but enough to be dangerous. The ocean is a respected natural resource and must be treated as such. Who would be better stewards than our own "Lobstermen"? l do not have a clue what the capital investment would be for a "Mom & Pop" Atlantic Salmon fish farm. l know/knew of an operation (aquafarm) on Great Cranberry harvesting shellfish with minimal capital. That would be a start so that "locals" would benefit most with the hand that has been dealt.
