The 1968 model doesn't seem all that bad in comparison.

That’s quite a statement from Geoff Wood. The residents of Southwest Harbor and Tremont aren’t affluent or educated enough to understand the alleged benefits of an RSU model. With a condescending attitude like that, these two towns will never go for it. The bottom line is it won’t come to fruition.

Unless the state shuts you down in a few years because you can't find enough qualified teachers.

You mean like Geoff Wood? A proficient weathervane of who’s affluent and educated. A shutdown is not likely a scenario that will happen. A huge concern is the lack of voting power in an RSU. Southwest Harbor and Tremont will have less votes when it comes to policy and budgetary issues. The current AOS model is currently structured that way.

Southwest harbor should look to turning their educational facilities into an academy rather than a state controlled mold

Union contracts versus Non Union contracts. The state has a ton of high School level academies that are independent from each other and most offer boarding as well. Specialize it in agriculture and aquaculture and I would think that kind of program would fill the Halls of the 350 person School once again.
