BAR HARBOR, Jan. 3, 2022 - Companies owned by Ocean Properties, which operates the passenger tender services and other cruise ship related businesses, filed suit last Thursday in U.S. District Court against the Town of Bar Harbor charging the citizen initiated ordinance passed Nov. 8 to reduce cruise ship visitors is “unconstitutional and otherwise unlawful.” The suit seeks a permanent injunction against the implementation and enforcement of the Initiated Ordinance.
The lawsuit may be viewed by clicking here.
The Town Council is scheduled to meet tonight at 6:30 p.m. You may watch the meeting on Town Hall Streams.
The legal action was not surprising as Ocean Properties is the largest cruise ship related business in town.
The QSJ will be following the story as it develops.
Thank you for the heads up on this important meeting. The TC should make a vigorous defense of the ordinance passed by the majority of the residents.
Lincoln, glad you're on the case with your reporting. I moved to Lamoine, just off the Island, last summer (year rounder) and greatly appreciate how you're filling a gap that exists now in too many communities - entreprising local journalism.
