Beginning in 2025 Norway is banning all but zero emission cruise ships from their fjords and other wildlife habitats they've identified as sensitive. Ship size is also limited to 200 passengers in specified locations. Apparently they're more concerned with protecting their pristine environment than the Bar Harbor town council is in protecting ours. 1000 room floating hotels belching filthy emissions while idling in Frenchman Bay are given a green light by a corrupted chamber of commerce is an unfolding environmental tragedy.. The BHTC is short sighted rather than fight our well intentioned vote that safeguards MDI's true economic engine, the pristine beauty of the outdoors that bring visitors here. Our waters and wildlife are no less sensitive than those of our brethren in Norway and it's rime for the BHTC to recognize it and stop catering to special interests that see only $ What's even more disturbing is it's happening in COA's front yard and they say and do nothing while allegedly educating its students to be aware, vigilant and protective of the environment. Politely put it's hypocrisy personified. WTF also comes to mind. Moreover, COA pays no taxes and takes full advantage of Bar Harbor and MDI's services and freeloading is especially disgraceful considering it's their home that treats them very well as they watch it being inexorably degraded.
I wonder if Friends of Acadia has any concerns at all about the cruise ships blighting the views from the Park and emitting toxic fumes next to the Porcupine Islands. I wonder if the cruise ship industry
or businesses that directly profit from the mega cruise ships visiting Bar Harbor donate to either the Park or FOA. I wonder if the Park’s position on cruise ships, which I understand they do not see a reason to have any position on them, is follow ed by Friends of Acadia. I would think the Park andFriends of Acadia would be highly concerned by degradations of the beautiful coastline and pollution. I have never heard of a Park official publically stating any concerns about these large white beasts roaming around the local waters which are an essential part of Acadia National Park.
I'm sure FOA publishes a donor list, likely in its Journal, but often these lists contain the names of company principals who've take a personal tax deduction, and not the company name.
Please keep the pressure on and keep talking about how the APPLL is in the pocket of the cruise ship industry, one of the biggest polluters on MDI. Friends of Acadia should be supporting this effort to stop the ships. Their mission is "To preserve and protect Acadia National Park and surrounding communities".
But remember, the Town could recover (or at least reduce) it's legal fees by increasing the Port Fee, so the burden was born by the industry, not the tax payers.

Good point , Mr. Leisenring.

Let's at least try and get the name of the Court right: it's the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
APPLL = losers

Just saying ...
But remember, the Town could recover (or at least reduce) it's legal fees by increasing the Port Fee, so the burden was born by the industry, not the tax payers.
