Bar Harbor has a long list of "firsts" in its history but who would have guessed it would be the first town in the United States to have a 44 room Bed & Breakfast? Please tell me that this is a late April Fools spoof. The entire concept behind B&Bs hinges upon providing small intimate accommodations via an inn owned locally, usually by an older retired couple. The very notion of calling a 44 room newly constructed hotel on Cottage Street a B&B would be laughable were it not for the dangerous precedent being set. What's next a Walmart on Main Street listed as a Country Store? I don't need to mention that parking spaces in Bar Harbor are scarcer than a hen's teeth already and losing 4 or more spaces so that guests can offload their luggage more conveniently doesn't pass the straight faced test. As the French Queen Marie Antoinette might have said, "Let them park their cars elsewhere!" Heck, for that matter let them build their 44 room B&B elsewhere or don't let them build it at all!

Please acknowledge Ann Judd’s generous contributions to SWH which include both the tiny park at the intersection of Main St. and Clark Pt. Rd. and her beautiful butterfly garden at Charlotte Rhoades Pk. She collaborated w. Bruce Riddell on both parks.
