NORTHEAST HARBOR, Aug. 29, 2025 - A native son is returning to be the next town manager.
Alexander L. Kimball, 56, who was born here, is expected to be named the town manager Tuesday night by the select board to succeed outgoing Durlin Lunt, another native who is retiring after 16 years as the town’s chief executive.
Kimball is the deputy county manager of Cumberland County based in Portland, Maine.
Kimball was the finance director of the county, but moved into a “more open ended role as the Deputy County Manager, doing more outreach and development while still holding on to some finance related functions such as budgeting and grants oversight,” according to his Linked-in profile.
Kimball graduated from Wesleyan University in December 1991.
He attended Mount Desert Elementary School.
He was the son of Daniel Kimball and Mary Ellen Kappes.
He helped manage a $75 million annual budget for the largest county in Maine. That compared with $23 million for Mount Desert, $6.5 million of which is for the schools.
Lunt said he was delighted to have another locally born town manager, a scion of one of the most prominent families in town.
Kimball owns a house on Summit Road in the village and is expected to move here from North Yarmouth, Lunt said.
Sounds like very good news!
