Well, mixed bag as this is, it's good info to have. Thank you for it.
I have no understanding of why anyone is even entertaining the 3200 count. WTH? 2 YEARS ago, the voters gave a directive...1000 cap per day, TOTAL. Do not try to tell me voters did not understand what the issue was. Who could currently mistaken a proposed 3200 per day cap as anything but laughable (if not such a serious issue)...just before saying, "Not even a consideration." None of this nonsense should even be taking place.
Thank you to those Council members who are willing to argue against this sham. When there are hard deadlines for decisions to be made, it needs to be mandatory that everyone involved be made aware of dateline.
Come one come all. This sounds like the last chance for input.
So the Bar Harbor Town Council keeps bringing up that enforcement is almost impossible related to
Chapter 52 Cruise Ship Disembarkation.
I think the rules we have already in Chap. 52 should work. The Town Council has said that it is and will enforce 125-77H, if these rules are not repealed.
We should not repeal, 125-77H. We should keep the democratic decision of numbers of disembarking passengers up to the citizens of Bar Harbor and not delegate to the Town Council. That number of passengers decision disembarking affects all of us and we should all decide by town vote.
We voted and pased 1,000 passenger disembarkment. It would be good faith if we were ever to move to a Chap. 50, that would start at 1,000 passenger disembarkation with no free pass for ships with less than 200 lower berth capacity and see in the future where we go from there.
I find myself puzzled that the Town Council seems to be throwing their hands up in the air with a "What can we do if Ocean Properties refuses to abide by the 1,000 passenger limit?" The same passenger limit, by the way, that got the Good Town Seal of Approval from Federal Judge Lance Walker. The answer seems simple to me, you send several officers down to the Ocean Property pier with a cease and desist order and if supervisory personnel refuses to comply you handcuff them and take them to the Hancock County jail in Ellsworth. If one of those folks happens to be the Ocean Property lawyer who recently went on record as saying that Ocean Properties was going to "stonewall" Judge Walker's ruling so much the better. And for those saying this solution is impractical I would remind them that just a short time ago the town literally spent thousands of dollars on a complete set of new rifles for the police department...better yet they didn't trade in the old ones, they kept them as extras! Ocean Properties be forewarned Bar Harbor police are well armed!
A big thanks to Gary Friedman for his important information about the cruise ship negotiations. Let’s hope Gary backs up his words with votes he will be taking at the August 27 Town Council Meeting: he could vote to not place the repeal and replace of the 1,000 passenger cap currently in place on the warrant for the November election, and vote not to adopt Chapter 50. These actions would uphold the majority of what BH voters already voted for, and affirm that at least one town councilor is representing what the voters want, not what Big Cruise wants.
Of course it did, even a dope like me can see that. The 3200 number with "plenty of NO cruise ship days!" Is like saying " I'll only defecate in your yard 7 times a month" , be happy!
There are so many parallels to the worst politics in the world happening in Bar Harbor it ain’t funny. By casting my vote for 1000 I am being told by Cruise Lines International and the Town Council that the initiative was somehow rigged and unless I accept 3200 I am required to surrender to the “Bar Harbor Reeducation Camp” run by the TownCouncil, until I admit that a four legged sheep is worth more than a two legged man.
Further, in my mind, the vulgar attack on Charles Sidman by the vulgar, deplorable Councilor, Matt Hochman, is akin to insurrectionists crying, “Hang Mike Pence” The Town Council has not publicly apologized, yet they read a statement before every Town Council meeting prohibiting the public use of the words like Fuck You.
Hochmann has abused his position. He should be removed from TC. Last week he sat in his chair unabashed and laughed about his notoriety. And as far as anyone knows is responsible for covering the town with stickers with his words. Fuck Charles Sidman.
Now it has been discovered that the Town Council was given the number 3200 from negotiating with CLIA. It is not just a matter of the fox in the hen house it’s the hens voluntarily moving into the foxes den.
Well the voters are the real captains of this ship Bar Harbor and it looks like it’s time to use the walking plank.
Walking plank or tar, feathers, and rail it's certainly past time for Bar Harbor residents to put those attempting to destroy the town in pursuit of profits on notice..."Not in our town you don't!"

All in all, what a crock...

If the voters in November reject the current proposal which seems likely what's next?
