SOUTHWEST HARBOR, June 13, 2023 - The body of the woman found Sunday here was identified as that of Amber Robbins, 35, of Tremont who was the victim of a hit and run on Main Street, state police said this afternoon.
“Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North and Southwest Harbor Police Department continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death which occurred on Saturday night or early Sunday morning.”
Robbins died “from blunt force trauma,” according to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta. “The incident is being investigated as a hit and run motor vehicle crash.”
“Police do not feel there is an ongoing threat to the public. If anyone noticed anything suspicious in the area of 61 Main Street between Saturday night and Sunday morning, please call the Maine State Police at 207-973-3700,” stated Shannon Moss, public information officer of the Maine Department of Public Safety.
The QSJ could not find a property in town with the address 61 Main Street. The address given for the new mini golf course is 55 Main Street.
Sunday, police halted all traffic on Rt. 102 from the Somesville fire station to the IGA store from around noon until late Sunday night after the body was discovered around 11:30 a.m. Sunday by a passerby.
No threat to the public? I’d say a fatal hit and run is a threat to all pedestrians! We need more speed enforcement on the island.
